If you’ve ever wondered how to turn your passion into a full-time art business—or whether entering that art prize is really worth it—Kate’s story will show you what’s possible. We talk about her path from social work into professional painting, the evolution of her brand, and how collaboration has shaped her business model.
Kate shares behind-the-scenes insights into Bloom, a bespoke painting experience co-created with fellow artist Emily Day, along with tips for starting before you're “ready,” trusting your instincts, and building an art business that aligns with your lifestyle and passions.
Her journey into her art career is an interesting one, with a social work background, Kate focused for many years raising her family and she says that she always had a creative hobby on the side. She started painting because she was really inspired by oil painter Laura Jones (link below).
Her art life really changed when she entered the Jumbled Art Superstar competition that she won in 2020. The next day she went to the bank and set up an official business bank account.
Kate talks about how she never sat down to plan her business rather she dived head first and just tried things out along the way. She shares the evolution of developing a homewares product range which is printed locally through Applik (link below). Kate talks about being an exhibiting artist and shares information about her show called “SEASONS” last 11 - 16 July at Latrobe Art Space. The exhibition is in Collaboration with: Pia Kuykhoven - painter and ceramic artist as well as Chelsea Baker a seed pod painter (links below).
