Laura and Ros dive into what effective goal setting looks like when you’re juggling both creativity and business tasks. Laura shares her experience with Profit First by Mike Michalowicz, a cash management system designed for small business owners, and how she’s applying it to her art business finances.

Ros introduces a powerful quarterly planning method she’s trialling, inspired by business coach Tash Corbin. It starts with a big-picture brain dump and filters down into just three focused goals—plus a handful of realistic, aligned action steps to get you there.

 This is how it works:

1. Do a brain dump of all your ideas and what you want to achieve in the quarter. These can be in all areas of your life including health, family etc.
2. Then look at your list and determine which of those items are goal (rather than actions). Goals are the ones that have a number related to them. E.g. Create 6 artworks, make 10 sales etc.
3. Hone your goals to a list of 3 only.
4. List out 9-10 total actions that relate to your goal list. You can choose items from your original brain dump list. Or you may realise that some of the items in your original list are not going to help with your goals, so you can leave them aside for another day.

 Laura chats about the importance of having a focus for your creative energy and setting yourself up with realistic goals. By channeling your energy and creativity into specific activities as set out in your plan, will help you to achieve your goals.

We also touch on some tips for overachievers and also those who have to nurture their energy levels.
